About Joan

Joan Sullivan a classically trained artist who discovered a love of history through painting.

Joan has worked and taught art throughout the US, but it was when she came to California’s central coast for some en plein air painting that she found home. Shortly following her experience, she moved her family up from southern California and began working in the small coast community of Los Osos.

Painting on location at local ranches that had been held by families for generations, she became friends with many of the ranchers. From these relationships, and their stories, grew a lifelong interest in the region’s history.
